Calling Things We Love Our Guilty Pleasure Is Actually Super Sexist Heres Why

Calling Things We Love Our 'Extravagance' Is Actually Super Sexist â€" Here's Why I get rubs a few times each month. My shoulders consistently hurt, thus I appreciate them. Similarly, I enjoy lodging a 16 ounces of Rocky Road frozen yogurt every once in a while, which is practically mandatory when I gorge on cringy romantic comedies. Furthermore, truly, I pay considerably a lot for some woman to go through two hours sticking phony eyelashes onto my face about once every month. I figure I can manage the cost of it on the grounds that Ive surrendered my exercise center enrollment since venturing out from home to travel full time.And, no, I dont feel terrible about any of it. In any case, there was positively when I considered these things my back rubs, frozen yogurt, romantic comedies, lash augmentations, exercise center meetings, voyages, and so forth my indulgences. That is until I truly halted to ruminate on what that implies. The end to which I at last came: Calling something an extravagance is sexist.Heres some nourishment for thought.1. Feeling regretful spots disgrace on us for accepting pleasure.Women, specifically, are disgraced for encountering, not to mention grasping, a wide range of delight. Were time after time considered sl*ts for getting a charge out of sex and closeness, or b*tches for feeling enthusiastic about our vocations, or insane for the love we feel for certain others. What's more, it doesnt stop there. Or maybe, were additionally fangirls for the eagerness we feel for music or crazy for our wants to seek after customarily male-ruled fields of study. The rundown goes on.In short: Women are educated to endure life as detached traditionalists. Also, any lady who sets out to be an abnormality of the standard should feel remorseful for, in Laymans terms, feelin herself. Thus, we feel remorseful for delight on the grounds that weve been customized to conciliate others before ourselves.Calling whatever it is that you appreciate an indulgence, at that point, strengthens the radical, unwarranted thought that ladies are undeser ving of pleasure.2. Keeping indulgences keeps us away from communicating our genuine, entire selves.A extravagance is, normally, something in which we enjoy our performance time, and that is on the grounds that we feel, well, blameworthy for savoring whatever it is. Definitely, at that point, we incumber our own pleasure, as we disallow the opportunity of our demeanor except if we are alone.Even when were without anyone else, doing anything from making up for lost time with an arrangement to rehearsing self esteem, we hold place for judgment since its been ingrained in us, particularly as ladies, that we should be or carry on in explicit manners. In the rear of our psyches, we ponder internally that we truly shouldnt be doing this or we should invest our energy some other, maybe progressively gainful or increasingly useful or more shrewd, way.For ladies, specifically, weve just at any point known a world that over and over again strips us of our voices and of our appearances. There are outlandish desires for us to be societys thought of a lady, and what we ought to and shouldnt do to accomplish that. At the point when we stray from that, both examination and genuine experience propose on numerous occasions that we face social penalization.Therefore, calling whatever it is that you by and by appreciate an indulgence, propagates a misogynist culture of conformity.3. What we will in general call extravagances are regularly connected with societys idea of femininity.The term indulgences will in general gather considerations of what society regards female watching unscripted tv, perusing romance books, rehearsing self-care as spa medicines and the utilization of beauty care products, and so on. Only from time to time do we talk about what society thinks about manly joys, for example, watching football or going through a day grilling blameworthy pleasures.Of course, whats female and whats manly is completely abstract. I disagree with characterizing anything as eithe r. Naming ourselves (and our joys) as either accept that we are parallel, and sex articulation is a range all things considered, I accept that we are completely comprised of ladylike and manly energies, just as everything in between.That stated, were still at a point in the public eye at which we are to a great extent cooperating to unlearn these prohibitive names. What's more, all things considered, we despite everything have assumptions of whats female and whats manly, and what we deliberately or subliminally, on the whole regard manly is infrequently viewed as a blameworthy pleasure.And that is not alright.- - AnnaMarie Houlis is a women's activist, an independent writer and an experience devotee with a fondness for indiscreet performance travel. 4 Things You Need to Ditch to Get Ahead at Work - The Muse

4 Things You Need to Ditch to Get Ahead at Work - The Muse 4 Things You Need to Ditch to Get Ahead at Work When you consider propelling your profession, what's your opinion about doing? Learning new aptitudes? Building your system? Possibly seeking after a side gig? These are generally extraordinary choices for excelling at work. In case you're gunning for an advancement or basically need to make yourself progressively attractive for future chances, you can't turn out badly by extending your insight and building connections. Be that as it may, as you set your arrangements for progression this year, I'd like you to likewise think about an alternate methodology: giving up. Once in a while the thing keeping us down isn't an absence of something-it's our refusal to discard something that is gotten obsolete or insignificant. Look at the rundown underneath, and inquire as to whether you can account for those new aptitudes or connections by surrendering what you do not require anymore. 1. An Unhelpful Mentor You will consistently require individuals who can help you expertly. There are a lot of instances of top entertainers who access mentors or guides to assist them with exploring troublesome choices or significant changes. Since connections advance after some time, be that as it may, it's totally feasible for somebody to be compelling and accommodating at one point in your relationship, and afterward become risky later on. As you progress in your vocation, somebody who was at one time an extraordinary tutor may become serious. Or then again he may basically stall out in an obsolete mentality while you (and your organization) proceed onward. Whatever the explanation, in the event that you grow out of a tutor, consider relinquishing the relationship-at any rate in its present structure. You don't need to cut ties totally or end a companionship, yet you don't need to clutch this individual as your vocation master, either. 2. An Irrelevant Goal Objectives are clearly significant. On the off chance that you aren't progressing in the direction of something concrete, all things considered, at that point what's going on with you? But then being resolute in the quest for your objectives may prompt difficulty in certain circumstances. An authority change at work, an exchange to an alternate office, another chance, or some other number of unanticipated changes could all effect the possibility of some random objective. Suppose you set an objective to build income for a particular product offering, yet your director reveals to you she needs you to expand income on an alternate product offering. In the event that you can't do both, you better adjust yourself to the organization objectives or you may land in boiling water. While you positively would prefer not to start forsaking an objective the moment you feel tested or focused on, you do need to get in the act of occasionally assessing whether your objectives are still high need. 3. An Outdated Approach Nobody intends to be the individual who exclaims, However we've generally done it that way! And yet, when we get settled, we become terrified of progress and look for security in what we know. Inquire as to whether you're staying with something-a daily schedule, a product framework, a training since it's recognizable. Do you feel a twinge of dread when you consider altering your methodology? That twinge is the start of the We've generally done it along these lines! mentality. There's surely an advantage in knowing a specific instrument of your exchange in reverse and forward. You can work rapidly and unhesitatingly when you're quiet with your procedures and innovation, yet stalling out is risky. Investing in investigating even one new thing a year in your industry can assist you with staying away from connection to items or practices that are progressively obsolete. 4. Innovation Consider a communication with an associate or companion that was significantly effective. Did it occur over content or an email? Improbable. On the off chance that you have to cause a persuading contention, to evoke help, settle on a troublesome choice, or convey a statement of regret, innovation is a guide, not the vehicle for correspondence. Put forth an attempt this year to put your telephone down, leave your office, and connect with individuals vis-à-vis. Obviously, looking for beneficial and significant communications with partners is just one motivation to release tech whenever the situation allows, but on the other hand there's a contention for expanded efficiency. How long a day do you lose to careless looking on Facebook? To what extent does it take you to coin the ideal Instagram inscription? I'm not saying to surrender your applications, yet to take a gander at how much time you spend on them. Wrest back control of your time before your manager observes your interruptions. You'll likely be astounded at how your efficiency blooms when you control your utilization of innovation rather than the reverse way around. This is positively not a complete rundown of the considerable number of things you should seriously think about discarding. The greater part of us have propensities, connections, convictions, and practices that warrant periodic investigation to decide whether they despite everything have a spot in our lives. On the off chance that you haven't thought about this before now, it's a decent an ideal opportunity to audit your arrangements to figure out what you need to include, and what you need to desert to make this your best proficient year yet.

Technology to Build Teams

Innovation to Build Teams 2018: The Year of the Team While the Chinese zodiac named 2018 as the Year of the Dog, we've named it the Year of the Team. We as a whole skill significant cooperation is to the accomplishment of any business. Business pioneers and chiefs talk about it and need to work admirably of it, however in all actuality, in spite of all the discussion around the significance of cooperation, most organizations are utilizing obsolete procedures that simply don't work. I as of late talked with Karen Gordon, CEO of 5 Dynamics, a main organization in the cooperation space, and she examined the consequences of their latest study around cooperation and coordinated effort. - 1- Your review found that most of individuals work in groups, and 33% of them have been disappointed enough by the experience to think about finding employment elsewhere. Is it safe to say that you were astonished by this measurement? What would leaders be able to do to beaten the dissatisfaction experienced by working in groups? No, we weren't astonished in any way. Organizations have idealized the specialty of upgrading forms. They have removed the clamor from frameworks and smoothed out creation, however advancing individuals is a considerably more overwhelming assignment. The inborn estimation of organizations is secured up its licenses, yet additionally in the scholarly capital of its representatives. We as a whole realize that this generally will be valid, however verifiably, organizations have not put enough in advancing connections. Connections can be hard to explore, for some more so than others, and as of not long ago, there was no simple path for individuals to interpret those connections. In this way, dissatisfaction results. Organization pioneers can address the cooperation challenge by focusing on joint effort endeavors. Rather than once-a-year retreats or yearly evaluations, organizations ought to execute joint effort instruments and procedures that representatives apply consistently. - 2- For what reason do you think organizations have generally avoided putting resources into the improvement of their representatives and significant connections? How might they begin to manufacture those keen speculations? Organizations like measurements. Estimating the expense of poor connections is a troublesome activity, however one marker is representative turnover. When this measurement is obvious, however, it's past the point of no return â€" you have just lost a decent representative. Another measurement organizations are starting to take a gander at is commitment, yet once more, it is fairly testing to successfully gauge something that is abstract. Be that as it may, a decent official realizes that the best procedures require high performing groups whose individuals are adjusted around a solitary objective, ready to confide in each other, have solid discussion, and push ahead in a bound together way. We realize that groups with differing individuals outflank homogenous groups. Officials profit by being purposeful in choosing colleagues with various points of view and ranges of abilities, at that point making conditions for that group to fabricate trust. Trust originates from the information that the group succeeds or bombs together â€" mental security is the main indicator of gainful groups. At the point when disappointment is viewed as excessively unsafe, people will find a way to ensure themselves, in any event, when it comes to the detriment of the group's exertion. Administrators need to put resources into advancing an organization culture that supports trust among groups whose individuals are profoundly differing. Group joint effort devices that workers can apply on a progressing premise are an incredible establishment for that culture. - 3- I see that the overview likewise brought up that new initiative, organization development, and spurring others all reason worry in workers. That appears to be common, however what can chiefs and officials do to address and move past that pressure? I figure the best thing administrators can do is invest energy pondering how their group works, including what is most important to them by and by and expertly. How might you spur others in the event that you don't have the foggiest idea what rouses them? What work do they genuinely appreciate doing? How would they like to contribute? What is the most ideal approach to arrange them to another task or group? These are for the most part addresses any pioneer ought to have the option to reply about her group, and the group ought to have the option to reply about their pioneer. On the off chance that a colleague can contribute from her qualities, she will be increasingly effective, connected with, and fulfilled, even despite difficulties or change. In the event that she feels esteemed by an association for the one of a kind endowments that she brings to the table, and bolstered in any circumstance she faces, change is a lot simpler to acknowledge. Change causes pressure, totally. Pioneers can alleviate that worry by utilizing best practices in change the board, conveying plainly and straightforwardly about what's going on and why, and guaranteeing that representatives have profitable roads for voicing their interests and being heard. Vulnerability drives a ton of the uneasiness and stress that representatives experience. At the point when pioneers give adequate understanding into organization plans and needs, representatives can relinquish the pressure that accompanies vulnerability and push ahead with their work in a progressively gainful mentality. - 4- As indicated by the study, organizations are actualizing cooperation devices, however workers aren't making a difference them. For what reason do you think this is, and by what means can supervisors and pioneers bolster selection that opens those related advantages? I accept that most frameworks are too hard to even think about mastering. They require a mediator to decipher the dataan inside HR, Leadership Organization Development (LOD) proficient, or an outside mentor for the fortunate rare sorts of people who can bear the cost of one. Our way of thinking is that everybody ought to have a straightforward framework for disentangling human connections, with the goal that's what we have created. It's tied in with expelling the impulses of individual connections by giving partners an extremely clear and express guide to draw out the best in others and themselves. Keeping things straightforward, qualities based, and simple to follow is basic for appropriation and comprehension. On the off chance that individuals get it, they're increasingly disposed to like it; in this way, they apply it. That is the thing that separates powerful joint effort and cooperation assets in this space. Improving connections is the new wilderness in workforce the board. Delicate aptitudes are progressively outpacing specialized expertise and business sharpness as unquestionable requirements for workers. Organizations hope to be continually educating and preparing their workforce to improve specialized and business abilities, yet it is far less regular for relationship building abilities. Officials who put resources into the fundamental assets to improve group coordinated effort will see the expanded efficiency and lower turnover reflected in the primary concern. 2014 Employment Branding Imagine, Create Be the Brand

2014 Employment Branding Imagine, Create Be the Brand 2014 Branding: Imagine,Create Be The Brand Most companies are just now catching on to the power of employment branding.   We recently were introduced to the highly creative employment branding videos of Apple, Ernst Young, Google, Intel, and Accenture.   Each company was able to capture the companies’ culture, along with all the possibilities an employee will experience while working at each company.   What ideas are you working on to attract top talent?   Are you prepared for the coming new year challenges of attracting talent to your company?   How will you stand out from the crowd? 2014 Branding: Imagine,Create Be The Brand In 2014, companies will need to really build a strong employment brand in order to attract good employees.   It will be the year that thinking outside the box makes the company hip to be the square peg. Step 1: Imagine the Brand The elements that make a strong brand include the following: Captures the true desires and possibilities of the candidate Creates unimaginable anticipation about working at your company Consistent message employees share about working at your company Captivates the hearts and minds in feelings of experiencing enjoyment, status, and daily challenges This is the most exciting time during the process of employment branding.   Gather your recruiting teams together for a brainstorming session of developing ideas that will align with the corporate brand.   Invite the marketing department, the human resource department, one member from various other departments, and executive team members, if available.   This not only brings multiple minds together to build the brand, but creates energy that increases employee belief in the brand that delivers a consistent message inside and outside the organization. STEP 2: Create the Brand When focusing on creating the brand it is very important to align with the consumer brand.   The sales force will be able to relate the message and guide you in the right direction.   The consumer brand holds many messages of soft qualities that empower the employment brand when they are aligned together.   Some of the soft qualities could be passion, humbleness, integrity, tenacity, or positiveness. Think about the individuals that walk the walk and talk the talk of the company brand.   These individuals make incredible representatives of the companies employment branding.   Teach them the consumer brand soft qualities, the company brand, and the employment brand and they will deliver a consistent message when seeking good candidates. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;} Step 3: Be the Brand Recently, our family sat down to watch a movie together.  It was the children’s movie Kung Fu Panda.   As the movie progressed along, I found myself captivated by the personality of the Panda.   At first, he appeared to be a complete train wreck and lacking any of the skills possessed by the Furious 5.   They were being really hard on him and making statements about how he would never be one of them and should pack his things and go home.   When the master started to believe in him, it allowed him to see Panda in a different light.   Panda possessed the skills of the Furious 5, he just needed to believe in himself in order to find his natural talent.   Once he started believing, he became the Dragon Warrior. In order for your employment brand to become a consistently strong message, your employees must believe in it and Be the Brand.   You will know when branding is working positively because talent will simply fall into the hands of your sources and recruiters.   They will carry the message consistently to potential candidates and it will act like a boomerang bringing referrals to your doorstep. Spark the Discussions As we move deeper into the 21st century, robots are going to become pervasive in many industries.   I would like to see an animation company take one of their recruiters and make an employment video with the recruiter as an animated robot.   It would be a small 5 minute video including the elements that make a brand strong, the soft qualities of the consumer brand, and aligning all with the employment brand. This is simply one idea to spark the discussions of creating an employment brand for your business.   What ideas do you have for sparking a discussion?   This next year, 2014, is the time to stand out from the crowd.  Begin the discussions and start thinking outside the box.   Imagine the Brand, Create the Brand, Be the Brand. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;}

New study shows your face can reveal if youre rich or poor

New examination shows your face can uncover in case you're rich or poor New examination shows your face can uncover in case you're rich or poor We definitely realize that what we wear and what we own can part with where we remain on the social stepping stool. Be that as it may, clearly there are portions of our financial status that can't be purchased. As indicated by one new investigation in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, how much cash we have is written all over our faces.University of Toronto scientists needed to perceive the amount we can surmise from facial prompts alone, so they selected 81 understudies to take a gander at photos of 160 white people between the ages of 18 and 35.Researchers were intentional about picking photographs that didn't have stacked signifiers so members couldn't make suppositions about tattoos, piercings or facial hair. They likewise edited faces so members couldn't see stature, and they put the entirety of the photographs in greyscale.All that was left for members to take a gander at were faces. Half of the individuals in these photographs detailed yearly livelihoods over $ 150,000 and half announced salaries beneath $35,000.When members were approached to figure which face was rich and which was poor, they were correct the greater part of the time, making the outcomes more than irregular chance.What's that all over? It's wealth.Researchers accept that our mouths might be parting with us. In a different examination, analysts had members surmise financial status dependent on edited photographs of just eyes or mouths, and individuals who simply had mouths to judge were more exact than the individuals who had eyes. So mouths, not eyes, might be the windows to our souls.Once we made sense of it was these inconspicuous enthusiastic articulations, it bodes well that the mouth would show the greater part of that, in light of the fact that the mouth is the thing that you for the most part use, particularly with positive feelings, such as grinning, the investigation's lead creator Nicholas O. Rule revealed to CNN.In general, any indication of energy seen on the face related to that individual being wealthy.That bodes well. Cash can have a significant effect between a splendid peered toward image of joy and a focused, harried look of 'help, I'm paying off debtors' in the concern lines around your mouth. After some time, those sentiments become forever scratched on your face.One's facial musculature may hypertrophy and one's skin may crease in manners that mirror these rehashed demeanors, bringing about an unbiased or resting appearance that looks like the individual's gauge, or generally visit, feeling state, scientists wrote.In different words, your background's, regardless of whether positive or negative, are broadcast on your face.Your face muscles can even have enduring repercussions on your employability. At the point when members were approached to rate the probability that the individual in the face photograph would effectively find a new line of work as a bookkeeper, they picked the rich gathering over poor people group.This is an upsetting finding that shows how initial introductions can sustain class contrasts: individuals who look pushed and poor won't land positions over the individuals who look loose and rich. Also, this is one early introduction that is difficult to change. You can change what you wear, however you can't change your face.One conceivable answer: Even in the event that you are confronting money related troubles, chip away at concentrating on the beneficial things throughout your life and discovering approaches to diminish your pressure. Keeping an uplifting standpoint will be composed all over, which could lead you to be picked whenever positive money related open doors become accessible.

How to Use job descriptions to land your dream role

How to Use job descriptions to land your dream role by Amber Rolfe Job descriptions come in all shapes and sizes… A job description is a comprehensive outline of a vacancy, covering its duties, required skills and salary, as well as a company’s culture. In other words, it’s the perfect guide for your application â€" not something to be skimmed, brushed over, or worse, totally ignored.To make sure you’re making the most out of the clues they could give you, here’s our guide on how using job descriptions effectively could help land your dream role:  Read the whole thing Finding a job that’s right for you can be tough, meaning it’s all too easy to jump to conclusions at the first sign of a good match.But before you submit your application as quickly as possible, it’s vital to get to grips with the role first.Sure, the job title and salary might be ideal â€" but do the duties listed in the job description match up? Do you have the required skills? And what about the benefits package?By taking the time to read the j ob description thoroughly, you’ll not only be able to figure out if the vacancy and company is right for you, but also if you’re right for them. Then you’ll have all the information you need to demonstrate your suitability with a perfectly tailored CV and cover letter.What job adverts really mean  Figure out how you’re a match OK, so you’ve read the job description at least five times. Now it’s time to figure out if it’s right for you.Start by highlighting/circling/underlining the key elements of the role; from the most mentioned tasks and duties, to the essential skills needed to carry them out.Using this, you’ll be able to match your own experience and abilities accurately â€" avoiding the temptation to add any irrelevant information.Because claiming you’re the world’s greatest Morris dancer might be your go-to party trick, but it’s unlikely to turn any heads if it has nothing to do with the job (hint: hobbies and interests won’t always be relevant).What ar e transferable skills?Five CV skills employers look for in every jobseekerTailor your approachOnce you’ve made a list of what makes you a great fit, it’s time to consider layout, making the first section of your CV and cover letter exactly what the employer is looking for.For example, if your education is more relevant than your work experience, opening with that is far more likely to grab the recruiter’s attention. It’s also key to cover your most applicable traits in your personal statement.But remember: even if the first paragraphs of your CV and cover letter are perfect, the rest of it could still let you down if you don’t pay it any attention.That’s why it’s important to before adapt them in line with the job description for every single role you apply for â€" whether this means removing certain aspects of your skills, or placing more of an emphasis on others.  Five ways to refresh your CVGive examples Identifying your relevant skills and experience is good, but i t’s not enough.To demonstrate your suitability (and make your CV stand out from the crowd), it’s vital to include real-life examples that prove you have each of these attributes â€" whether it’s excellent analytical skills, great attention to detail, or anything else.How? Simple. You know exactly what skills the employer wants (hint: they’re listed in the job description) â€" you just need to think of an example that demonstrates them efficiently.It could be anything from a positive interaction with a customer that resulted in increased sales, to a project that improved user experience. But no matter what you choose, always make sure it resulted in a positive outcome; and always try to quantify it with real figures or percentages.For example, saying you ‘implemented an add-on sales initiative that increased the average basket spend by 5%’ sounds much better than simply saying you helped increase sales.That way, the recruiter will be able to see exactly what your experien ce could bring to their business.How to: Write a CVHow to: Write a cover letter  Check before you send Once you’ve tailored your CV (and cover letter) in a way that demonstrates your most relevant skills effectively, it’s time to get a second opinion.It could be a friend, colleague, family member or mentor. But whoever you choose, a fresh pair of eyes is often exactly what you need to ensure your application is as focused as it can be.If they can’t work out why you’re applying for the job (and what makes you suited), it might indicate that it needs a bit more work. This is also a great way to spot any spelling or grammar mistakes that you may have missed.Lastly, check it over yourself to ensure your CV and cover letter matches up with exactly what they’ve stated in the job description.Remember: it might take a little longer, but tailoring your CV shows passion, dedication, and a real interest in the role â€" which are often the exact attributes an employer is looking for.C ommon grammar mistakes to avoid on your CVWhat not to do on your CVStill searching for your perfect position? Resume Writing For Greensburg Pa - How to Write a Brilliant Resume

Resume Writing For Greensburg Pa - How to Write a Brilliant ResumeOne of the most important parts of a person's resume is the cover letter, and even though the resume is the first thing that is noticed, it is the cover letter that really should catch the reader's attention. If your resume doesn't get the attention it deserves, it will be very difficult to get a job at all.Make sure you are making your resume stand out by highlighting its strong points and bringing to light any relevant experience and previous job experience that are not being highlighted in the resume. You don't want to appear like you are trying to hide anything and this means using interesting titles to list off your experience and past employment.Start your resume off with a couple of paragraphs detailing your qualifications. Use a powerful opening paragraph that brings your reader into the resume and highlights what they will be reading in the rest of the resume. You don't want them to have to read through four o r five pages just to find the information they are looking for.A great title can be found by using your title as your article and throwing in a little bit of a twist. You want to use titles that will catch the eye and make them want to read on. For example, if you worked as a Registered Nurse, and you had five years experience working in the hospital setting, you would want to use your title as the article and state that you were trained as a registered nurse and that you were very happy with your job.List down your experiences and any relevant job titles. You want to get your reader interested in what you have to say and you don't want to be redundant. Simply state that you worked with a few other people that helped you become successful and will provide references to back up your claim.With the names and experiences listed, you can now list down your job titles. In most cases, you want to list the titles of the jobs that you held prior to your current position. Using a good job ti tle can really show that you were successful and that your resume is worth reading.Now that you have listed down your strong point and job titles, list down your education. If you have an advanced degree, use your title and college or university name as your article and talk about how much you enjoyed your schooling. This can be a really powerful piece of writing as you will have placed yourself in a positive light and shown how you went from attending school and completing your degree to landing a job.Last but not least, you need to list down all of your certifications. Most resumes today will list certifications and you want to make sure that they are included in your resume. By listing down your certifications you are showing that you are qualified and that you have achieved a certain level of success in the work place.

4 Tips For Working With Your Other Half And Making It Work

4 Tips For Working With Your Other Half â€" And Making It Work It’s common to hear someone dedicated to their career say they are “married to their work”, especially in today’s economic climate and competitive job market. However, there has been a recent upward trend in couples who actually fuse their personal lives with their work. In the process, they create an incredibly fulfilling career and personal relationship. But how? It’s possible. Meet Maria Orozova and Scott Thomas. Maria  is President and Creative Director of design and marketing house The MOD Studio.  Scott is President of revenue growth agency Intelechy Group. Together, they are a testament to the success spouses can find when they combine forces and work together professionally.  The duo, living and working in Austin, Texas, made the decision to form a partnership between their companies.  Doing so allowed them to offer a broader scope of services to their robust roster of clients, which includes Exclusive Resorts, Lexus, Circuit of the Americas, Dell, Four Seasons Residences and more. Both agree that they experienced their fair share of roadblocks and lessons learned along the way.  But their businesses and marriage have valiantly withstood the tests of this gutsy merger. Are you considering starting a business venture with your partner?  Or do you need guidance smoothing out your existing working relationship?  Either way,  read  on for their advice about how to maintain a vibrant and fulfilling connection.  Theyve made it work both in the office and at home, and so, too, can you. The Work/Home Equilibrium The old adage “keep your work and personal lives separate” has become increasingly unrealistic in our tech-centered world.   To be able to unplug â€" especially when you own your own business or have flexibility to work remotely, is essential. Rather than trying to maintain an even work/home balance on a day-to-day basis, Maria and Scott suggest making up for particularly hectic stretches of putting in extra hours working with relaxing getaways sans responsibilities. Rewarding yourself with some RR after a busy season is an ultimate luxury.   And will ensure you don’t fall into an “all work, no play” mindset, which can be detrimental to your well being and relationship. Opposites Attract One of the primary benefits of working with your counterpart is being able to leverage each other’s unique strengths. According to Maria and Scott, deciding roles and delegating responsibilities based on your individual abilities ensures you are complementing each other’s talents and bridging any potential gaps. For example, spouses who are social and gifted in networking IRL and on social media can benefit from partners who are better at behind-the-scenes, operational duties, and vice versa.  Its a classic example of playing on each others strengths. Team Goal-Setting No road map is created without a destination in mind.  Agreeing upon end goals will keep you both on track for success. Maria and Scott have found that maintaining open lines of communication keep them in tune with each other’s ideas.   It also helps them avoid roadblocks before they arise. While you may not always agree upon the best route to take during your journey, keep in mind that you both want to arrive at the same destination together. #Respect All couples know that having and showing respect for your partner is a must-have in any relationship.  But it’s easy to let tempers flare when business is involved. Even if you already have an understanding with each other, use a tone that is respectful in your personal relationship.  Have a conversation with your other half about maintaining the same level of dignity in the office as you do at home.  Maria and Scott have found that will prevent feelings from getting hurt and small disagreements from turning into full-blown issues. Working Together Can Work All relationships take dedicated effort.  Working together with a spouse or significant other can prove especially challenging.  But the rewards are worth the effort.  With careful thought and execution, you can create the same success that Maria and Scott have shown is possible. Maria Orozova As the President + Creative Director of MOD, Maria has more than a decade of experience developing advertising and branding campaigns for local and national clients. Her work has earned 16 ADDY ® awards 35 American Graphic Design Awards.    She was selected as one of Graphic Design USA Magazines “2012 People to Watch. Maria is also a featured writer for elite publications such as Entrepreneur Magazine, Texas CEO Magazine and Austin Business Journal. Always the entrepreneur, she started MODpaper, a luxury couture invitation design studio. She also finds time to serve on the Board of Directors for the Center for Child Protection, the Fashion Marketing Advisory Panel for The Art Institute of Austin, both GENaustins Board of Directors and planning committee for the Pathfinder program. She is a long time supporter of the National Childrens Alliance and Ballet Austin.    She was also selected as a finalist in the 2015 Austin Under 40 Awards. In addition to her professional and voluntee r duties, Maria  pursues a wide range of personal interests, including skiing, interior design and adding to the ever-growing list of countries she has visited 28 in total. Technical Writing Career Profile - VocationVillage

Technical Writing Career Profile - VocationVillage VocationVillage.com interviewed Technical Writer Jude Chosnyk about her technical writing career.How would you describe the main functions of your job in your technical writing career?Im a full-time employee of GrandMasters, LLC. They have me working inside Microsoft as a Vendor. I interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to write various types of documentation. I research topics, read legacy documentation when its available, and write and edit documentation. I typically have a project management role in most of my assignments so I organize and setup meetings with key players to drive deadlines for documentation schedules for publication.What does a typical day look like for you?Depending on the needs of the firm and the department that Im assigned to, a typical day in my job can look very different compared to another firm or department. In my current position as a Sr. Technical Writer where Im a Vendor at Microsoft, I am focused on writing one Infrastructure Planning and Design Guid e at a time. I work with one technical lead here to get feedback for the guide Im writing and I also research the information on an internal MS web site as well. This isnt typical, though. At most of my other assignments in other firms I can be writing and editing several (10 â€" 30) documents simultaneously and can be working with many subject matter experts to provide me with feedback. Im not the project manager in my current position but typically Im acting as a Project Manager as well as the Technical Writer. I typically must create a documentation project plan to keep the documentation project on schedule and must be very persistent with my need for feedback from SMEs.What do you like best about your work?I love what I do. It provides me with a wide variety of challenges because I usually work on a contract basis and I change jobs often so Im always going to new companies and learning new software and tools. My skills are always fresh by changing jobs and I never get bored. I g et to meet new people at every new assignment and make new friends wherever I work. I typically work in Information Technology so I get to work with extremely intelligent people.What are the most challenging things about technical writing?My biggest challenge is also what I like most. I must constantly learn new software and tools at every new assignment. There can be a bit of a learning curve for each new assignment. I enjoy learning new things so its a good challenge for me.How did you land your current job?I applied for my current position via Monster.com and got the position.What was your professional background before you chose a technical writing career?In my first job, I was an electrical draftsperson. I drew lines and circles on paper. So, it seemed like a natural progression to become a Technical Writer. Actually, theres no connection there. He-he-he. Ive been a technical writer for about 18 years. Ive been a consultant for about the last 12 years. Ive worked for Honeywell, Wells Fargo, SAFECO, ATT, Washington Mutual, T-Mobile, Boeing, Starbucks, Microsoft, DHL/Airborne, The Port of Seattle, to name a few.What is your educational background?I have an associate degree in applied science with an emphasis in Technical Writing and Business Writing. Thats my formal educational background. After 18 years in the business, most of my educational background is on-the-job experience and the school of hard knocks.What skills are most important to succeed in technical writing?Hard skills, such as knowing the industry-standard software programs, for example, the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and Project) is important but Ive found that soft skills are just as important to succeed as a technical writer. You have to be very organized and you absolutely must be proactive. What I mean by that is you must seek out SMEs and key players who can provide you the most bang for your buck. You must find the people who have the knowledge about your subj ect in their head, or know where to send you to get legacy documentation. You must be willing to produce documentation out of thin air so its important to be ambitious and not be afraid to be horribly off-base on a subject. As long as you produce something, anything, that a SME can see and shoot darts at youll be way ahead of the game. Another important skill for success is flexibility. You will always have deadlines, sometimes short deadlines, and you might have to stay up all night writing that next chapter or an entire guide for a review early the next day because your SME didnt provide you the information until 5:00pm the night before.What advice do you have for someone who wants to pursue a technical writing career?I started out by taking an introductory class at college when I was living in Illinois. Take an Introduction to Technical Writing class and see if its something you might like to do. I talked to some Technical Writers that were already in mid-career for advice. Ask y ourself if you like to write and edit because thats the majority of the job. Be honest with yourself about how you feel when someone critiques your writing because youll get it from all types of folks in an organization and sometimes its good feedback and sometimes its completely wrong. If youre easily offended by others feedback on your writing, this career is not for you. Also, be aware that you will spend a good part of your day reading documentation. Depending on your field, it could be very dry and boring!If a mid-career professional decided he/she wanted to become a technical writer, what are the steps he/she should take to make a successful transition?Take an Introduction to Technical Writing class and see if its something you might like to do. Talk to some technical writers that are in mid-career for advice. Subscribe to writing email lists like the Seattle Writergrrls. Join a professional writing association like the Puget Sound Society for Technical Communication. Read as much as you can about whats happening in the technical writing field. My motto has always been, Knowledge is power.What is the income range for technical writers?Right now Senior Technical Writers in the Seattle area are earning $75K-$85K. To find current info, Salary.com is a good resource.What are your long-term career goals?I started out as a Technical Writing Intern at a company nearly 20 years ago so Ive reached my long-term career goals as a Senior Technical Writer. Ill keep doing what I do as long as someone likes my work.Any other comments?Yes, good luck to any aspiring technical writers that might read this article. I hope by sharing my experience itll help someone who is trying to make a career decision.Thank you, Jude!For the record, Jude completed this interview via email more quickly than any other interviewee has ever done she is a fast writer! .
